Battlefield

At Benteng 7 Lapis in 2008

I was in Riau

At Benteng Tujuh Lapis

Visit Battlefield

It was long before

We even knew where it was

Fort Dalu Dalu

He was their Leader

Padri Wars against the Dutch

Tambusai a cry

September Heights, day 29- "Battlefield".

I visited the former fort at Benteng 7 Lapis in Dalu Dalu, about 5 hours from Pekanbaru in Riau, Sumatera. It was there the last battle against the Dutch fought by my ancestor, Fakeh Hj.Muhammad Salleh a.k.a. Tuanku Tambusai in 1838. He escaped by jumping into Batang Sosah, a fast flowing river next to the fort and from there he made his way to Rasah, Seremban where he finally settled and died in 1882.

Dear Hal,
So that explains the title heading of your blog and the pic! Must be fun to look up your roots and have a re-run into history. Tomorrow is the last day on Sept Hts.
Maintain the momentum. The baptism of fire is now over. HH will be back to normal. But good to look up other haiku blogs as well. Great!

P/S Mama Tim had just submitted her first posting 'battltfield' at HH's Sept Hts. Check it out at HH or go to http://mamatimsite.blogspot.com/

Dear Hank,
The welcome from the officials in Rokan Hulu was really overwhelming to say the least. We did not ask for any special treatment but their respect for their National Hero (The honour was bestowed by the Indonesian Govt was conferred to Tuanku Tambusai in 1995) was real and deep. Thus they were honoured by the presence of his descendants who came to visit the historic site where my ancestors fought to defend the sovereignty of Dalu Dalu ruler then.
Yes, I shall take your advice. My utmost gratitude on your persistent tutelage.

Dear Mama Tim,
I believe that we are all 'starters'in a new venture, that is writing Haikus. A 'baby' will grow up to be a child, then become a teenager and an adult in no time. Keep writing and you will enjoy being in Hank's circuit of Haiku Heights. I prefer to be on my own and keep a small circle for Haiku writers.
