Aidilfitri 2013

                                 Aidilfitri 2013/ 1434 H

It is almost a week now since the first of Syawal 1434 is celeberated to mark to end of Ramadhan 1434 H, but the plethora of TV shows does not allow the Muslim viewers to forget counting which Hari Raya it is today, as if reinforcing the practice of  the month long Raya.
Last Friday which falls on the second day of Hari Raya, I went to the Kota Damansara mosque which is popularly known as Masjid Kuning due to its color seen on its exterior, the khutbah reminded the congregation that it is the Malay penchant to celeberate Raya for the whole month which ought to be discontinued, albeit difficult owing to long standing practice which had not been commented by ulamas openly. And the khutbah focussed on the six day non-obligatory fast in the month of Syawal instead, whereby by doing so, it is deemed that an individual would have fasted for the whole year. Hopefully the reminder does not go into the right ear and go out by the left ear for those who were present that day.
I gather that in Kelantan particularly, Raya is only celeberated at the most for a week and it is Aidiladha which is reckoned to be more important to many. I suppose it all depends on the practice of the society around our place and the more significant issue is the full understanding of the "ibadat" sorrounding the celeberation.
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir Batin.

Dear Hal,
Late Selamat Hari Raya greetings. The novelty of it has passed us. We just need to take account of little nitty gritty things cucu-wise besides for ourselves'!

Dear Hank,
Selamat Hari Raya and Maaf Zahir Batin to you too. For us, the significance of Aidilfitri is whether we have done better than last Ramadhan and pray to be able to meet the next.

Dear HAL,

Another Ramadan and Hari Raya heve left us, leaving a question mark whether we will yet see another. Then we know how fragile life is. Insya Allah you and Hank and all of us in the family will be around. In the meantime it is time to do something that is truly meaningful.

Dear Pakcik,
Our time in this mundane world is indeed determined by Allah Almighty and we can be called by HIM as and when it is written for us, not a second earlier nor a second later, and as you have rightly said, we mortals exit anytime, proving how fragile life is. We pray that our twilight years be utilised in the path of righteousness and in accordance with Shari'ah so that when the time comes we close it by saying there is no God except Allah.

Akhi Halim, I think I've wished you Selamat Hariray elsewhere, but doing so once more is only 'sunat'. The celebration will continue for the whole month coz many political leaders want to hold their 'open house' bashing. Well, I guess people like the idea of enjoying the best spread of food and delicacies for free once in a while. For me, a week is enough for visiting relatives. Dah mull puasa enam ke?

Akhi Norzah,
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to you and family too. Well, if the spread can be enjoyed for one month, so can the greetings, I presume. Yes, I only start this week, because I was not well after Hari Raya, maybe too much of a fill.

hahaha what a coincident. I was down for almost a week with cough and cold. Was working hard in the kebun fighting the lalang and duri under the hot sun both before HR and a day or two after when the the system failed me. Alhamdulillah, m ok now.
