Obituary for a friend

In my earlier posting last Tuesday, I mentioned about my trip to Damansara Specialist Hospital to visit a friend. Yesterday, 12 November on Monday, exactly a week from seeing on his hospital bed,he passed away peacefully, "Innalillahi wainnailaihi rojiun" and "Al-Fatihah."

At 1148 hours on Monday, I received the sad news from Dato' Yahya Yacob and after that immediately  rang up Hank. I told him to convey the news to the our former classmates from the Class of 1964 , the Federation Military College, Sg.Besi.

At 1530 hours, Hank came to fetch me and we proceeded to the Mosque in Taman Tun Dr.Ismail for Asar prayer and followed by the Solat Jenazah (for the deceased). While we had a short stop at the automatic car wash of a petrol station at Kayu Ara, I called OP Akbar Baba to convey him the news of Zawawi's demise. Though Hamzah sent him a few messages earlier but they somehow got lost along the way.At the Mosque I met a few Old Puteras, Shaharudin Bahaudin and Yusoff Ali Zain as well as Khairudin.Dato' Yahya arrived just before the Azan. After the  prayers as  we headed to the car park I met another Old Putera whom I befriended on the E-list, OP Budin earlier went to the Hospital to find out about Zawawi and only then learned about he had departed from this world. We headed for the Bukit Kiara Muslim burial ground to witness the burial rites at about 1730 hrs. We walked from the car-park of the burial ground to the burial site a distance away, criss-crossing the numerous graves, carefully treading our steps so as not to walk on them.
The rains poured during the burial sermon (Talqin) and many took cover under the tent set up over the freshly dug grave. Fortunately I brought my umbrella and I let others who were not prepared for rain to seek cover under the tent. By the time it was over, the downpour continued heavily and though I had the umbrella, I could not avoid getting wet as I walked back towards the car park.

Farewell my dear friend Zawawi, and May Allah bestow His Blessings, Compassion and Mercies on your soul. May Allah forgive you and all of us and may HE place you amongst the righteous, Ameen.

Dear Hal,
Al-Fatihah! it only seemed like yesterday that we first met in PD. That was in 1960. What's more we were in the same company,G Coy! This meant that the late Arwah Zawawi Mahmuddin ( he referred to himself as Emzet his initials being MZ )was together with me from Day One. He was from KE VII, Taiping.
We were in the same class from Form III till Upper VI. We were just a few beds away in the same barrack. We ate together at the Dining Hall, played together, went camping together. It was just not too long ago. Yes, may Allah the AlMighty place him amongst the righteous. Amin!

The journey when travelled together in life is actually short, what more when you shared the life in College being an umportant part of that chapter. I knew him closely when we were in Upper Six, because we did our revision for the HSC almost every afternoon in one of the classroom. We were together in the government service though in different Ministry. But the carmaderie and the OP bond were the ties that made our friendship an everlasting one. As I had always reminded myself and our friends, our journey in this mundane life is only transient, we are all heading for the permanent life in the Hereafter. May Allah Almighty bestow His Mercies and Forgiveness to all of us, Ameen.

You and Hank belong a few lucky groups. I belong to an older group and am the only one who is active in blogging. Threrte is only one other member who enjoys reading political issues on internet; and among you are active bloggers. Now you and Hank are getting goos at Haiku. Hank has gone sketching as well. I have reached my limit. I cannot do any more than what I have.

To lose such an old friend only not long after being reunited is sad indeed. AlFatihah to your dear friiend. I am sad over the loss of a pupil. Evreryonre is heading THAT way, AHS. We make the best of the time wesgtill have and are capable of enjoying it. Does Datuk Mazlan in KT know the deceased? I can find ways of passing the news to him if needed.

Dear Pak Cik,
Your comment is timely indeed because I have reminded my peers that we should be prepared to face the inevitable when our time is up. We have to beg forgiveness from Allah for all the commission and omissions in our mundane life because we may not know when our turn take place. The bounty and the Blessings that we have been endowed with are innumerable and to show our gratitude we must do good to all whom we can. You are on track and May Allah Bless you and Mak Cik always.

Thank You Mama Tim for your prayers. We are constantly reminded how temporary the world and all its enchantments is so deceptive and only Allah is permanent.
