Teethering Poem

  • My mentor in poetry says that my first poem is a stanza. The last person who mentioned this term was my literature master Mr. P.D. Bond when I was in FMC. He was a brilliant teacher and when he taught us poetry he dramatise it to the point of enchanting the whole class in awe as he described in detail the symbols, allusions and imageries.

    The Dragonfly

    As the dew melts

As the sun rises on the horizon

I love to see the dragonfly perched on the twig

It reminds me of my childhood

Where in the early hour of the morning

I walked to the clear stream

For then the innocence of childhood

In a village, serene and peaceful

I came across the dragonfly on the bank

Dear Hal,
This is brilliant. As I've said we're not starting from zero. We are really on to something great here!
Three months ago Ma'am Ninotaziz, an accomplished writer and poet posted a beautiful poem on Pakcik's blog.I liked it and Pakcik suggested I try poetry. I posted a few in my blog and you had also given positive comments.Later Ma'am Ninot suggested to link it other poetry blogs. That's what I want to suggest to you too!
In the meantime, I would like to inform Ma'am Ninot of a 'budding poet' coming on the scene. I hope Ma'am will give you the pointers on how to go about it.
Maybe you can put Magpie Tales on your blogroll and the moment Magpie #44 is made known you post one according to the prompt.
This is great, I'm just thrilled!

Fantastic. You are a poet after all. Now we will see if our friend Norzah can be drawn into this as well.

Dear Hank,
As the first step, I have made magpie tales as on my blogroll.

Pakcik,
I do not qualify yet as a poet as what my mentor said, and I would rather learn to crawl before I could walk. Thanks.

Akhi Halim, as much as Akhi Hank surprised me by turning out to be an accomplshed poet, you gave me the same pleasant surprise by coming up with your own poems. Congratulations. As far as Akhi Pakcik Al-Manar is cocerned i have noted his poetic capability quite some time before.
Hey, it turns out now that i'm in the midst of pets and budding poets. As for me i've written some stanzas before but had never pursued it in earnest, prefering to write in plain prose. Now that you all have revived my interest in poetry i might try to write a few verses myself, hehehe.

Akhi,
I am just experimenting and if I am able to keep the momentum, I will continue. Knowing your prowess in prose and poetry, I paled in my effort as compared to an accomplished veteran writer which you have been known for.

Dear Hal,
Great! It's just great. I'm overwhelmed. Akhi Norzah is also game. I'm thrilled!

Pakcik,
As for Pakcik, we have seen your poetry in your blog, Sir. They were fantastic! Come in as and when you get the 'omph'. Afterall, for our generation we have the advantage of having been schooled in proper English.Join in the fun, why not?

Dear Hal,
You may wish to try Micro Fiction while waiting for Magpie. It is challenging as you have to post not more than 140 characters and it need not rhyme. You need not count as you can go to the Design 215 counter which would note the no. of words while you type. It is now #60 and #61 is also given if you scroll down. You can go to my blogroll to access. It's fun!

Sir hanks stated: Afterall, for our generation we have the advantage of having been schooled in proper English.

Oh dear, where does that place me - out of place generation? Nether here nor there generation? Generation Gap?

Just having fun - I am so happy there are more trying out poetry.

Once again, thank you Pakcik!

And looking forward to more of your poetry Sir Halim!

Mdm Ninotaziz,
There is no generation gap where the intellect is concerned, since you are far advanced in your poetry.
I am just a novice and hope the flame of ideas in poetry emotion does not extinguish easily.
Thank you Ma'am.

Dear Hal,
The ball gets rolling! Ma'am said she's expecting the poetry press to start printing out wonders now. You'll be surprised how the momentum gets on you - at a very fast pace. Welcome to the club!
